what name to use in `avatar-name`

Currently the name displayed in the UI is the most popular one. I propose to use the name most recently used by me. If I haven't, use (a) use the most popular one or (b) use the one most recently set by the user. Not sure what I would prefer.

what about, first thing to match one of these rules:

most recently used name by you.
most popular name used by people you follow (counted as most recently used)
most popular name (counted as most recently used), by people you don't follow.

note self-naming also falls into 2,3
