How will we complete bookend history?

This is almost a harder challenge than choosing the big picture, as we need consensus on how our story begins and ends.

Each card will need:

This seems closely related to the how do we make decisions issue.

I suppose we want to find a balance between speed of play and inclusion, so we can get to the rest of the game while everyone has equal input. Unstructured discussion might be difficult to close.

Maybe we can treat it a bit like deciding on the palette, either proposing a title, description, or tone, or amending a change that someone else suggested. We could consider it final once one person has actively abstained from making more changes on their turn, and all the fields have been decided.

Maybe we could improve this process by doing some things concurrently? Maybe we could change two things at a time, provided they are different (don't set both the titles, tones, or descriptions).

What do you think?

I think the basic structure is right: have an initial free-for-all window of time, and unless there is ongoing changes/debates, we close at the end of that window.

Let's not atomise the step down into title / description / tone as separate rounds or steps. Encourage players to make a fully fledged pair of bookends, and then let others argue with that. This will reward first movers with more influence

Relatedly, are we waiting to decide whether to go with a fresh repo, or just a new file in the current repo?

To contribute to these bookends, would I just make a change to the relevant file? Or do we discuss here in an issue first?

In the interest of flow, here are some submissions. Hopefully this is not breaking the formality of having an official time window. We can start the official time window later after close this pissue

Start:

Refusing the singularity

A group of humans who do not agree with the global policy of mandatory mind upload are forced to leave Earth in search of a new world. While they are not anti-technology, they have unanswered questions about the nature of the mind, soul and individual identity.

-Dark-

End:

Peace in diversity

Diverse descendants of planet earth arrive at an uneasy peace in their corner of the galaxy, learning to respect each other's chosen form of evolution

English is not my native language, could you explain ‘uneasy peace’? I know the individual words, but I'm unsure if ‘uneasy peace’ refers to ‘peace that didn't come easily’ or ‘peace that is not at ease’.

I read it as 'peace that is not at ease' @kas

I'm happy with those bookends, so unless there are other amendments, we can just move onto the palette.

Work didn't afford me the opportunity to break away and read up on what was happening today, but I should be able to follow along actively in the morning.

@kas - what @joshuavial said is correct. I'll also try to avoid too much idiom going forward

@joshuavial - do I sense you might be interested to play? now would be the moment to make it official :)

@kas - if you signal that you are happy with the bookends, then we can end the 48 hour window early and move on to the palette

@haileycoop, @ansuz, I'm happy with the bookends.

@jv, thanks for clarifying the ‘uneasy peace’ thing.

@haileycoop - I would love to but think I can only make time to just observe this round. Keen for a future round though.

I'm going to close this and move the text into a file (in this repo).

@kas, do you want to make the new repo this time around? We can copy the file there and start on the palette.
